How to prepare campfire orange muffins with your kids

Bored at home? Let’s get outside! And while you are there, this is a great tip for an activity.

If you have joined any of the bare hand cooking classes with our Jen, you may remember this one! If not, don’t worry. We are here to regularly share with you some tips on how to play, cook, or make things that we think are amazing. This is the first one!

What will you need?

  • Your kid

  • A campfire

  • 3 big oranges

  • 1 box of muffin mix

  • 1 egg

  • ¼ cup of milk or 3-4 ounces of yogurt

  • Aluminum foil

Now what?

Eat the oranges. No, seriously. Cut them into halves and keeping the skin intact, get out the flesh and eat it! That will do for a snack for now.

Get the muffin batter and stuff one half of the orange with it, cupping it with the other half. Covered with 3 layers of aluminum foil, throw it into the fire. You will need to keep turning the muffins every minute until they are done, which may take some 6 or 8 minutes. When they are ready, eat them with a spoon! No need for a knife.

And if you decided to just snack on some muffins from 7-11, we don’t judge you. You can at least look back on how your kid (or other kids) did in one of our sessions of the Forest School’s Bare Hand Cooking Class.
